Cheapest sat nav for western Europe I have iphone 4?

TomTom car kit seems very expensive (£100) and then the software is another £43, seems a lot when I already own the main device! Is the GPS of iphone 4 better than 3GS? One of the selling points of the kit is the improved GPS but I’m not sure if I need that with the iphone 4?
Maybe I should get the CoPilot software with a basic cradle for the phone? Or would buying a stand-alone sat nav for western europe be cheaper overall (& better?).
