Last December, I was visiting my brother in San Antonio, Texas. He worked a lot these days, and we had not seen since my arrival from Italy. I was myself, and I had to call every 30 minutes to see if he had finished work and pick me up. At To his surprise, I first called and said, "Hey, when you're ready, call me at this number … I'll answer on my iPod Touch "Only if you're wondering:" NO, you do not need a jailbroken iPod Touch to do anyway, you'll need get an external microphone to operate.
So this was my scenario: I was in another country and needed to stay in touch with someone else. I have not had a mobile phone, but I got an iPod Touch! Of course, I must thank the Wi-Fi the Capitol in Austin. It was the perfect place to await the call from my brother! I had a lovely time taking the tour. So we'll check what you need to do this work:
Create a SIP account
For my part I use SIP Callcentric. Just go to their registration page freecall.com and register for a free account.
Installing a SIP client
The SIP client I use here is MixPhone. Mixphone is a mobile application that lets you make free calls directly from your iPhone and iPod touch. You can download a free on the iTunes Store. In your SIP client, use the username and password that you created on callcentric.com. For field use callcentric.com.
Get your free phone number
For toll-free I ipKall used. They only have four different area codes (do not complain … it's free!): 206, 253, 360, 425. Go to their sign up Page: phone.ipkall.com and register for a free account. Here, you'll need to insert new information freecall.com so they can assign a number to your account. It will take some days to get the number, and once you get it, use it! If your account remains inactive for more than 30 days will be terminated for non-use.
