iphone 3gs jailbreak?

hi know the new pwned thing came out but EVERY time i get the 1600 error and i know i’m doing it right ! I have a mac and i put it in DFU mode but it said sorry blah blah 1600 error could not work . But i have a question i phone 3gs i got it in aug. and i hacked it before and i upgraded it by misstake but does your iphone have to be jailbroken to be jailbreak to the new version ? I didn’t edit it sorry im in a rush

yes for the newest dev team pwnage solution you must not have upgraded to 3.1.. Now if you saved the two files through cydia then it is possible to downgrade and the pwn up to 3.1 with a custom .ipsw. check out modmyi.com and look through the posts and forums if you need more information.
