How to install iPhone OS 4.0 Beta?

I develop applications as a hobby, but have not got a paid account Dev. I So had the IPSW file on the OS of my cousin, who apparently downloaded it via another site. I try to install using Alt click, then select the file, but my ipod is in recovery and then iTunes says "preparing iPod for restore" then it comes up with an error. How can I run?
