safe place to verify cash?
Okay, I sell my iphone on craigslist, and they want to send me a check. I received the check, but I want to avoid scams. So how and where can I cash this check without getting ripped off my own money in the bank. I live in San Antonio, Texas. (Just try to play it safe)
Read the warnings on Craigslist scam – It is expressly to do business with people you can meet face to face and accept cash only. It may take up to 4 weeks for your bank discover a check was counterfeit or stolen, even if they make the funds available in 3-4 days. All you can do is call the issuing bank tell them you suspect fraud bank and give them the check number, account number, name of account holder and address and amount. Have the issuing bank confirms the check is legitimate and that funds are available in the account of the issuer. Make sure the name on the check exactly in the name of the person to contact you. If not, do not even try to cash it. They either printed counterfeit checks or stolen checkbook someone. But personally, I do not accept any checks from anyone on Craigslist. Cash only and meet in a public place to exchange money for the phone. If they disagree, find another buyer. I'd like to send the check to the "buyer" and to say that you found someone willing to pay you in cash.
