Review: iPhone apps for Canadian banks

Recently did some research for my blog to present some applications of the iPhone for Canadian banks. I must say that most of our major banks have noticed and responded to the claim that people want to access their bank accounts via iPhone. But the qualities of services are different.

I found that seven banks in Canada have their iPhone app for their clients. They are Bank Royal of Canada (RBC), Scotiabank, Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD), Bank of Montreal (BMO), ING Direct Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and Desjardins. Since I can not make any comments as to the accuracy of transactions, and I want to trust our banks can handle it very well or at least most of them provide "Online Security Guarantee. Here I will give an overview of these applications, but only on the basis of their functions.

1. Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD Canada) ★ ★ ★ ★

One for the TD is the most polite IPhone App for Canadian banks. This is a full functional mobile application, and you can do what ever it is available on the website of the Bank TD. Four main modules include

• TD Canada Trust: Go to your chequing account statements, savings, credit and investment accounts, pay bills and transfer money anytime, anywhere
• TD Waterhouse: track your investments in checking account balances, list of orders, assets and activities. Even to get the real-time quotes of stocks, ETFs and mutual funds.
• TD Insurance: notepad Toolkit accidents and insurance help you when you need it
• Branch Locator: list the nearest branch, ATM TD Waterhouse Investor Centre, both in Canada and U.S.

It also supports multiple login with access card, WebBroker Login ID, send and receive money transfers via email Interact.

2. Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) ★ ★ ★

The largest bank in Canada offers given details, transfer funds, pay bills, transfer Interac Email and branch / ATM locator to its customers. The app works fairly stable in the iPhone, but customers also want them can meet their investment and insurance services as the application of the TD.

After a recent update, the new application RBC can pay bills and transfer funds using U.S. dollar bank accounts, sign in with ID cards called client / display support iPhone and retina 4.

3. ING DIRECT Canada ★ ★ ★ ★

In my opinion, the International Nederlanden Groep (ING) is still providing excellent service to its customers. They do not have much branches than the other banks, but they are really good doing online banking. And I think that is enough evidence, they brought their experience of Online banking for mobile applications. In the ING website, you may find that they support most major smartphones, Android, iPhone, Windows Mobile 7, Blackberry, iPhone, playbook and access the mobile site.

With the iPhone client ING can check your balance, control operations, funds transfer, email money, pay bills, buy and sell fund Streetwise and talk to a friend.

4. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) ★ ★ ★

As the first bank released its iPhone in Canada, CIBC offers clients the availability to check the balance, review transactions, make transfers, pay bills and a branch Google Map Enhanced / ATM locator. There is a large user reviews complain that this software is not support PC Financial customers. Most customers who have an iPhone PCF can not really accept that they are treated differently, since CPF is a division of CIBC and has the same number as the old bank.

5. The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank) ★ ★ ★

In my opinion, Scotiabank offers excellent services for its banking services Online. That is why I am a little bit disappointed that the application of Scotiabank has not as many functions as TD Bank. It only offers functions very standard, as the balance of checking account, pay bills, transfer funds, funds by email and branch locator. A highlight here is small, it supports the display Retina.

6. Bank of Montreal (BMO) ★

Check balances, review transactions to transfer funds and locate parts. That's it. No transfer e-mail, not even bill payment is one major banks in Canada provides its customer with an iPhone.

The reviews are bad and iTune BMO even want iPhone users to watch a tour built with Adobe Flash. What can I say, BMO really need to work harder!

7. Desjardins ★ ★

Personally, I never liked Desjardins online banking. The structure, layout and especially I can not examine the transactions in the last 60 days, when I last used their services online in 2010 on the debut. I gave two stars for iPhone app Desjardins, he has at least the payment of bills and insurance quote. I must say it is better than a BMO.

Besides that, I can not find the line / mobile security guarantee statement, so please check with them yourself to ensure that your mobile transactions are protected.

Short, good iPhone-Smartphone banking application must provide as many functions as possible online banking. It must be stable, reliable and easy to use.
